(COOLLIST) PowerPCPun

I was talking with another Motorola CAD developer yesterday about what
contributions Batwing-M had made to the PowerPC project, the joint
venture among IBM, Motorola, and Apple to produce a new, fast computer
architecture to compete with the x86's. The first batch of these
PowerPC chips all were numbered in the 600's, with the first being the
601 and later ones being the 603, 604, and 620.

So, I told Neil that I had heard of one manufacturer that had replaced
six dedicated VLSI circuits on its design with one of the PowerPC
chips. Yes, indeed, it was 601 or half-a-dozen of the other.

I then fled.
