(COOLLIST) Sick Day

I write this from home where I'm reclining with a full nose, an
occasional cough, a sore throat, and a cloudy head. I'm home from
work, although it isn't a lot of fun.

I'm been pretty lax about writing these lately. Its mostly because
I've not had a lot to talk about with the world at large. My third show
is in production (we taped some stuff last night) and I'm about to fly
to Portland, Oregon for the weekend, but other than that its not been
too exciting lately.

I actually was excited last weekend to get a DX-390 shortwave/MW/FM
receiver from a Radio Shack outlet for a good price... I've already
used it to listen to Radio Australia. It also does a great job with
local FM, so I have it in my computer room playing NPR 90.5.

When I was first testing it, I noticed a really odd channel on 100.1
MHz... it was a strong FM signal but it just sounded like pink noise.
A little fine tuning showed that it was strongest at 100.0 MHz... I
then realized that my computer was on in the other room with the case
off, and knowing that the Pentium 75 really has a crystal frequency of
50MHz led me quickly to the culpret.

I took a defensive driving course two weeks ago to dismiss a speeding
ticket (40 in a 30 zone!). It actually wasn't too bad... it clears
the ticket off my record, plus I get an insurance discount now. The
contest was useful, if a bit dry. The most memorable part of the
class was the guy sitting in front of me. Lets just say he was
Butthead in the flesh. Actually, he wasn't so bad... just a little
Kmart obsessed.

Anyone remember a program for the PC called Acidwarp? It was a demo
that put up cool ripple-like graphics and then did color animation.
It also came with instructions on how to use a fresnel lens to project
your monitor on the wall. My copy of it acts oddly on both of my
PCs... it looks fine except that the top five or six lines flicker
between black and the right color. Any clues out there?

Finally, some of you know that I have an Atari Jaguar game system. I
bought it back in June with two games, Tempest 2000 and Pinball
Fantasies. Both were quite good. I then bought a used Raiden. Also
good. Today I got in a shipment of five more used games for it. All
sucked in some way or another. Either the control was poor or the
graphics were muddy. Any Jag players out there with recommendations?

Anyway, keep in touch, y'all. A trip to Atlanta is likely for
October. Let me know if there are any important weekends there to
plan around.

Toodles,
