Why must I use NiMH (nickel metal hydride) batteries?

Because you'll go broke buying Alkalines and they're horrible for the Environment. Use NiMH because

They're rechargable, 500 to 1000 times.
They last a lot longer (on 1 charge) than Alkalines.
They're not expensive. ( ~$11 for four AA or AAA batteries; recharger $12~$20 )
They're great for digital cameras. ( My Nikon Coolpix 950 loves them. See my pictures! [user: guest passwd: guest] )
You don't have to discharge and recharge them completely to keep them happy.
They're not so toxic to dispose of.
They're not hard to find. I got mine at Target and Wal-Mart.

For AA batteries, be sure you get 1600mAh.
For AAA, get 700 mAh.
