Motorola in the Local News 2/27/96

There was an interesting story on the local West Palm Beach Channel
12 news last night at 11pm.

One of the Motorola commercials regarding pagers--the one with that
shows the answering machine--has an 800 number on the pager.

Now the news station blurred out the last 4 digits, but I think the
number on the pager is 1-800-555-1236.

Now most know that a 555 does not exist. But apparently, the random
number they chose DOES exist due to it being an 800 number.

When you call the number, an answering machine or voice mail makes
an anti-abortion statement. The number belongs to another small
business unrelated to the abortion debate, but they use the number
to discourage prank calls. It was rather confusing.

The local Boynton Beach PR person made a statement saying Motorola is
neither for or against abortion.

But Motorola has taken the commercial off the air until they change
the number.

If taken in context, the bachelor who didn't miss a potential date
because he had his "Motorola Pager (TM)" must have been surprised
when he replied to this page.
