(COOLLIST) Busy Week Ends Soon

Hey, all. I've not written anything to the list lately due to lots
of other activities going on, so I thought I'd do some penance.

First, I'd like you all to meet my new companion. She's sleek, black,
has an active matrix color screen, 8 megs of RAM, a 260 meg hard drive,
a tiny trackball, and when hooked up via parallel port networking
goes by the name basia.techwood.org.

Yep, I bought a notebook computer. Dell's factory outlet store had a
big sale right after Thanksgiving, and I couldn't pass it up. I've
had laptop lust for the last year, and had been seriously looking at
prices since August.

The big green computer, texas.techwood.org, is cooperating nicely.
basia is going to be my word processing, game, and database machine,
while texas remains my Internet workstation and programming platform.
Once I get a good tape backup working again, I'm even going to stick
Linux on the two boxes to supplement Windows 95.

But, enough with the computer geek section of this essay.

The other big news is (CL):TV, episode #1. I shot about three hours
of video this week for the first episode of (COOLLIST) Television.
Monday morning, around 2AM, I have edit deck time in which I'll do my
best to whittle it down to 30 minutes of good stuff. Here's the current
outline for the show:

Clockwork Orange Will Not Be Seen Tonight
	Opening Credits
	Introduction to the program
	Klingon/IBM ad parody
Reviews of old Atari 2600 and 8-bit video games
	Atari nostalgia ad
Talking about cordless phones and privacy
Reviewing 2600, Blacklisted 411!, and Private Line 'zines
	Closing Credits

My ideas for the Mentos parody and a soap opera starring small electronic
devices are on hold until I do work on show #2. I do have some footage
of a pager vibrating off a table for which I might find some use.

Anything else big? Well, I saw The Innocence Mission and Natalie Merchant
in concert last Monday night. It was a big show, so I've no back stage
stories about this one. IM was good, but their set was short. Miss
Merchant was in good form. After a slow start, she hit her stride with
a dark, Gothic version of the 10K Maniacs song "Eat for Two". Her
band jammed for 15 minutes with a reggae-like version of "These Are Days"
which merged into "Jealousy" off _Tigerlily_, her solo album. Later
in the show, Natalie brought the leads from IM on stage to help her sing
"May the Circle Be Unbroken" and eventually recruited several audience
members from the front rows to come up and sing along. There was a
long encore which became a little silly as Miss Merchant sang pithy
1940esque songs from her memory, but it was a very good show.

Phew! I hope all of your holiday festivities go well. I'll be thinking
about you all. May your peace and joy be incremented infinitely.
